The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a new interface standard, introduced to meet the increasing number of all-digital content. HDMI standard features a large bandwidth of 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) (HDMI 1.3), thus capable of transmitting uncompressed high-definition video and multi-channel digital audio from any audio/video source to display devices via a single cable.

HDMI significantly simplifies the way a home theater system is set up, as it requires only one cable to transmit both video and audio signals simultaneously.

Thanks to its large bandwidth, HDMI allows video and audio signals to be transmitted uncompressed from source to display device. Uncompressed signals deliver superior video and sound as they are originally created, offering consumers an enhanced viewing experience.

HDMI adopts an HDCP system to protect digital content. In most cases, a DVI/HDCP-compliant display device is needed to watch the HDCP-based content.
